Nissan Sentra Overview

NIssan first introduced the Sentra to the U.S. market back in 1982. At the time, the Japanese-made vehicle was considered a subcompact, which remained so until the late 90s when it was reclassified as simply a compact car. The 2007 model and beyond was once again reclassified as a midsize car by the EPA due to its interior volume, but many still view the Sentra as a compact.

You may not find a lot of Sentras outside of North America, as many of the car’s destinations chose to keep the Nissan Sunny nomenclature, which is what it is sold as in Japan up until 2012. From 2013 until present, the Sunny was rebadged as the Sylphy in most parts of the globe.

Until 2017, our friends south of the border sold the Sentra as the Nissan Tsuru.

The Sentra is no longer considered Nissan’s entry-level car either. This honor now belongs to the Versa, which comes in a couple of different configurations.
