Nissan 300ZX Overview

The Nissan 300ZX is a classic Japanese sports car that, during the 80s and 90s, gave rival, and far more expensive, Italian sports cars a run for their money. In Japan the car was produced from 1983 to 2000 and was sold as the Fairlady Z. In the United States, the 300ZX was sold from 1984 to 1996.

A fun fact about the ‘Z’ in the 300ZX’s name was used to signify that the vehicle was part of Nissan’s luxury line up.

The 300ZX was produced in two generations. The first was the Z31 model, which was made from 1983 to 1989. The second generation introduced the classic body style that is featured in the accompanying image. The newer 300ZX (Z32) came with a series of upgrades and comfort features that, in turn, drove up the MSRP.

Z-Cars temporarily stopped being sold in the United States after the 1996 model year; however, they continued to be manufactured and sold in Japan until 2001. Zs were reintroduced to the U.S. market in 2003 with the launch of Nissan’s 350Z, aka the Z33 model.

Similarly to the 240SX, the 300ZX is a collector’s car and has been praised by major automotive magazines, like Car and Driver, making their Ten Best list, and Motor Trend’s Import Car of the Year in 1990.
